Where Sound Meets Vision  The ASE Story

Founded in 1997, the Academy of Sound Engineering (ASE) was born from a bold vision: to build a learning institution that does not just teach about the entertainment industry — but becomes part of it.Over 25 years later, ASE stands as South Africa’s premier audio education provider, recognised for its role in shaping the future of music, media, film, and broadcast. With internationally accredited programmes, world-class facilities, and a curriculum led by award-winning professionals, we have trained some of the most sought-after names in the creative industries.

From a Dream in 1997 to an Industry Leader Today

What started as a single programme in Johannesburg has evolved into an institution with purpose-built studio environments in Johannesburg. Our campus is located in the iconic SABC Radio Park Complex.

ASE quickly gained a reputation for blending academic excellence with hands-on, industry-integrated training. From the early 2000s, students were working on landmark events such as 46664, Oppikoppi, My Coke Fest, and the FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Concert — applying their knowledge to real-world sound, staging, and broadcast projects.

Empowering the Next Generation of Creators

Our graduates include SAMA-winning engineers, chart-topping artists, live sound technicians, music producers, radio professionals, AV specialists, and entertainment business executives who now shape the creative landscape locally and internationally.

They have worked at venues like Abbey Road Studios, toured with global artists, contributed to Netflix and Disney+ productions, and launched their own recording labels and tech startups. At ASE, students do not wait to "break into the industry" — they start in it.
