Academic and Communication Skills

This fundamental module covers several key aspects: an overview of the programme; academic rules and processes; the development of academic skills; and the application of communication skills in various professional production settings. Programme overview describes the programme structure, a description of the course content in each major, elective choices, and rules of combination and progression. Academic processes are also explained and discussed, including navigating the LMS, accessing online academic resources, using the physical and online library resources, general academic rules and procedures, and interpreting the detailed and summarised PDF and online academic reports. The academic skills component equips students to set goals, manage time, take notes, study effectively, and prepare for assessments. It also fosters problem-solving abilities through analytical and critical thinking. The communication skills component focuses on practical application in the context of recording studios, live stage events, theatre productions, film and video sound stages, and on-location audio and video productions. Students will start by mastering basic writing techniques, such as constructing clear and concise sentences and organising their thoughts logically, ensuring that students can write with accuracy and precision. Through practical exercises and guided writing tasks, students will develop the confidence to express their ideas in writing, preparing them for more advanced courses or practical applications in writing for screen.
